The arrival of summer never goes unnoticed in Spain. The warmest season is welcomed with fire, sea, and joy. One of the most beautiful and colorful customs is the Night of San Juan, celebrated on the night of June 23rd and 24th. Many believe this night is the most magical of the year, and there are numerous customs practiced to grant certain wishes.

The magic of fire and light on the threshold of summer.

In coastal cities like Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga, and Alicante, beaches fill with thousands of people who come to welcome summer. Fireworks light up the sky, and the sea shimmers in shades of red, gold, and blue. These bright flames aren't just a decoration; they symbolize the purification of everything we leave behind and open the door to new beginnings.

The centerpiece of the celebration is the bonfires on the beach. People sing, play, and dance around them, and custom dictates that a piece of paper with a wish or something they wish to disappear forever be thrown into the fire. The bravest jump over the flame three times, believing it will bring them good luck and free them from the burden of the past.

Swim at midnight and seven waves for good luck.

Bathing in the sea at midnight is a special part of tradition. It is believed to bring health and well-being. Many also follow the ancient custom of turning their backs to the sea while jumping seven waves, imagining a wish with each leap.

A night of freedom, music and togetherness.

San Juan Night is not just a holiday, but a sense of freedom and connection with nature and people. Beaches become gathering places where music is heard, dancing is held, concerts are held, and families and friends share food and wine until the early hours of the morning.

This celebration in Spain is not just another day on the calendar, but a poetic celebration of life, light, and hope. In the land of sun and passion, summer begins with fire, longing, and shared joy. If you want to experience the magic of a tradition, the Night of San Juan is an experience you can't miss, because you'll remember it forever.
